According to the Report, this statement was made by German Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) in an interview with the ZDF TV channel.
According to Lindner, there is still a lot of time to find a viable solution.
“According to my estimate, the value we are now talking about is around 5 billion euros,” the minister said.
The minister also shared plans to meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Vice Chancellor and Head of the Economics Ministry Robert Habeck (Greens) before the middle of the month. The draft budget will then go to the Bundestag, where it will be adopted at the end of November.
It should be noted that it took longer than planned for the ruling coalition to agree on Germany’s draft budget for 2025, and that this was accompanied by public debates between politicians as well as threats by some MPs to stop supporting the government. The 2025 budget will amount to 481 billion euros, of which 4 billion euros will be allocated for military support to Ukraine.
