Argentine President Javier Milei refused to recognise Nicolas Maduro’s victory in the Venezuelan presidential election. A similar decision was taken by the authorities of Peru and Chile.
As the Report reported with reference to ‘Kommersant’, Milei wrote about this on the social network ‘X
‘The data shows the overwhelming victory of the opposition and the world is waiting for it (Nicolas Maduro’s government) to admit defeat,’ he said.
Milei named Venezuelan opposition figure Edmundo Gonzalez as the winner.
Peruvian Foreign Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea described the vote in Venezuela as ‘an attack on the will of the people’.
Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren said the Chilean government would not recognise Nicolas Maduro’s victory until international observers announced their findings. Chilean President Gabriel Borich also called for ‘full transparency in the verification of the protocols’.
It should be noted that Maduro won 51.2 per cent of the vote after 80 per cent of the protocols were processed.
