The heads of the parliamentary committees on European affairs of six EU countries are concerned about the political line of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

This view was expressed in a message sent to Budapest and published on the website of the Lithuanian Seimas (parliament), APA reported, citing TASS.

‘We are extremely concerned about the first weeks of Hungary’s presidency of the Council of the EU, as the basic principles of this organisation are being trampled on,’ the document, signed by representatives of Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Finland and Estonia, reads. They are also supported by Poland.

The task of the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU is to ‘coordinate and mediate between the governments of the member states’ and to pursue their interests for the common good, while the Hungarian prime minister ‘has been provoking his partners by putting his own interests above the European treaties since the first days of his presidency’, the authors of the letter say.
