Mélenchon, founder of the ‘Rebel France’ party: France must leave NATO

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, founder of the left-wing party ‘France in Revolt’, called on his country to withdraw from the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO). Mélenchon expressed his views in an interview with El País newspaper on 21 July.

Melanchon stated that he would do so if he were prime minister.

‘If I were in the Elysee Palace, I would certainly withdraw the country from NATO in a planned and organised way,’ the newspaper quoted Melanchon as saying.

Gazeta.ru also quoted Mélenchon as saying that the North Atlantic Alliance ‘contains a logic of war’. In contrast, he is in favour of ‘disarmament and pacification’.

Earlier, on 17 June, Florian Filippo, leader of the ‘Patriots’ party, spoke for France’s withdrawal from NATO. He stated that the North Atlantic Alliance is preparing the ground for war in 2030. In addition, the bloc rejected the peace plan proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
