The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday (28 May) on the Israeli Defence Forces’ attack on the Rafah tent camp, which killed dozens of Palestinians.
This information was provided by a diplomatic source in the Security Council, the Report reported, citing TASS.
The meeting will be held in a closed consultation format. ‘Closed consultations will be held on Tuesday evening at the request of Algeria,’ the source said.
On the night of 27 May, the Israeli army shelled Rafah, with at least eight rockets hitting a tent camp in the Tell al-Sultan area next to a warehouse belonging to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. A fire broke out in the tent city. According to the latest figures provided by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, at least 40 people were killed in the raid, most of them women and children.
The Israel Defence Forces press service said that the information gathering unit of the General Staff had launched an investigation into the civilian deaths in Rafah.
