The United States is in favour of the appointment of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte as Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance.

According to APA, this statement was made by John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the White House National Security Council.

“Nothing has changed in terms of our support for Mr Rutte to be the next secretary general,” Kirby said.

Washington has repeatedly publicly expressed its support for Mr Rutte’s candidacy. According to the US permanent representative to NATO, Julianne Smith, the US wants the bloc’s next secretary-general to be nominated at the alliance’s summit in Washington in July.
