Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Foreign Minister Tobias Billström will travel to Washington on Wednesday 6 March.
According to a statement released by the government office, Report cited TASS as saying
“The visit will include, among other things, bilateral talks with the US administration and meetings with members of Congress,” the report said.
SVT TV’s domestic policy observer Mats Knutson commented on the press release as follows: “This cannot be interpreted in any other way than that the government is absolutely certain that Hungary will hand over its documents to Washington tomorrow so that Sweden can become a full member of NATO. The fact that the prime minister is accompanied by the prime minister himself may also indicate that a meeting with President Joe Biden is planned.”
NATO sources told the newspaper Dagens Nyheter that if Sweden also submitted its accession documents quickly, the kingdom could become a member of the bloc as early as Thursday or Friday.
