Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that 28 new solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 8 GW will be built in the country by 2027. This was reported by the Report citing the Uzbek leader’s press service.
“Based on the demand of the population and sectors of the economy, 28 large solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 8 GW will be launched in the next three years, 944 kilometres of high-voltage transmission lines and 6 large substations will be built,” Mirziyoyev said at a meeting dedicated to priority tasks in the field of renewable energy.
He noted that Uzbekistan’s green energy capacity is 10-12 times higher than its needs. He added that funds worth $ 2.1 billion have been raised in the sector and projects worth $ 13 billion are underway.
Mirziyoyev noted that by 2024, the share of “green” electricity in the country’s energy balance will reach a record high of 15%.
