Venezuela has strongly condemned ExxonMobil’s plans to increase oil production in the disputed area of Guyana-Essekibo.

According to the Report, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said in a statement on her social media page.

“Venezuela rejects the statement by Alistair Routledge, President of ExxonMobil Guyana’s subsidiary ExxonMobil, which claims to be drilling new wells offshore Venezuela and Guyana.

“This multinational energy corporation is not only undermining Guyana’s sovereignty, running Guyana’s highest authorities, but also seeks to defend illegal offshore operations in areas that are to be delimited with the military support of the United States and Guyana’s complicity,” Rodrigues said. He stressed that ExxonMobil’s actions violate the December 2023 joint declaration between Venezuelan Presidents Nicolas Maduro and Mohammed Irfaan Ali of Guyana on the Guyana-Essekibo territorial dispute.

“Venezuela will not give up defending Essequibo and will defend its rights under all circumstances,” Rodriguez said.
