France and Ukraine plan to sign an agreement on security guarantees in the coming weeks in line with the commitments made after the NATO summit in Vilnius.
French President Emmanuel Macron made this statement at a press conference at the Elysee Palace, the Report reports, citing TASS.
“We are working closely with our European and British partners. We are finalising a bilateral agreement that will be ready in the coming weeks. This agreement includes elements of security guarantees,” he said.
On the margins of the NATO summit in Vilnius on 11-12 July, the Group of Seven adopted a declaration on long-term security guarantees for Ukraine. It was later joined by a number of other countries. In particular, the document emphasises the need for Kiev to acquire significant military capabilities. Ukraine has already started negotiations on security guarantees with the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, France, Japan and Germany.
