Steps taken by Georgia for its European Union integration and reforms implemented both at legislative and institutional levels were discussed on Monday in a meeting between the country’s Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Oliver Varhelyi, the EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Policy.

The Foreign Ministry said the meeting discussed the European Commission’s enlargement report and priorities set out by the body last month for granting the country the EU membership candidate status this week.

Darchiashvili informed Varhelyi on an action plan approved by the country’s Government last month for fulfilling the recommendations, and noted the Georgian side was “ready to closely cooperate” with the EU for the purpose.

He emphasised his Government was waiting for the European Council’s decision to grant the country the status.
