From January to July 2024, more than 830,000 tonnes of Kazakh oil was transported through the port of Aktau along the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

A source from KazTransOil JSC (the national operator of Kazakhstan’s main oil pipeline) told Trend on Friday

“In January-July 2024, KazTransOil JSC transported 837 thousand tonnes of oil through the port of Aktau in the direction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline,” the source said.

According to the company, only in July 2024, KazTransOil shipped 136 thousand tonnes of Kazakh oil through the port of Aktau in the direction of the “Baku – Tbilisi – Ceyhan” pipeline.

The company also stressed that in August 2024, KazTransOil plans to ship 120 thousand tonnes of oil from the Aktau sea port in the direction of the BTC pipeline.

Earlier, the company told Trend that there were no changes in the plans for the volume of transport in this direction by the end of 2024.

“It is currently planned to transport up to 1.5 million tonnes of oil through the port of Aktau in the direction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline during 2024.” “KazTransOil delivers oil in accordance with the oil transport programme. This programme is approved by the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan on the basis of applications of transporters.”

It should be noted that by the end of 2023, using KazTransOil’s capacity, oil loading on tankers at the port of Aktau reached 3.376 million tonnes, of which 1.057 million tonnes were in the direction of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan. Overall, in 2023 Kazakhstan transported 1.392 million tonnes of oil via BTC, which is 5.5 times more than in 2022.

It will be recalled that in 2022, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to increase the volume of oil transported through the Trans-Caspian corridor. In accordance with this instruction, JSC NC KazMunayGas and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) signed an agreement on the transportation of 1.5 million tonnes of oil per year from the Tengiz field through the “Baku – Tbilisi – Ceyhan” pipeline.

In addition, during the visit of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Azerbaijan on 11-12 March, KazMunaiGas and SOCAR signed an agreement to increase the volume of oil transport through BTC to 2.2 million tonnes per year. https://www.trend.az/casia/kazakhstan/3932754.html
